About OpenCores

OpenCores is on a mission to democratize chip design. We believe that building custom silicon should be as accessible as building software — and AI is the key to making that happen.

The Problem

Today, designing a custom chip costs $50M+ and takes 2-3 years. Only about 20 companies worldwide can afford it. Meanwhile, there are over 300,000 unfilled semiconductor engineering positions globally. The CHIPS Act allocated $52.7B to revitalize domestic chip manufacturing — but the bottleneck isn't fab capacity. It's design complexity.

Our Solution

OpenCores is an AI-native platform that converts natural language descriptions into fabrication-ready silicon. Our custom fine-tuned model, trained on 25,000+ verified HDL designs and continuously retrained, generates synthesizable Verilog and VHDL code. Six autonomous verification agents validate every design. And our integrated synthesis pipeline produces GDSII layouts using OpenLane2 and the SKY130 PDK.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every AI researcher can prototype custom accelerators, every CS student can tape out a chip in a semester, and hardware startups can launch with 2 people instead of 200. We're building the “GitHub for Silicon” — and we're just getting started.

Traction

OpenCores is already used by 230+ monthly active users from institutions including MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, KIT, and TU Delft — all through organic, word-of-mouth growth with zero marketing spend.
